Hello bloggers,
Following the wonderful presentation that Shayna gave about braned environments, I did a little more research on the subject. As it turns out, Perkins + Will actually have a section on their website dedicated solely to branded environments. Check out what they have to say about branding and interior design:
Branded Environments
Branded Environments is a research-based strategy and creative discipline, internationally recognized for using design as an asset. Through use of proprietary tools such as Patterning and Strategic Opportunity Matrices, our practice identifies a client’s unique “DNA” and integrates that into tangible brand expressions, experiences and environments. Through this process, meaningful two- and three-dimensional experiences are created to communicate a company’s brand and achieve its goals. Our success stems from an interdisciplinary team that includes specialists in brand strategy, development and positioning, research, marketing communications, graphic design and interior architecture. Our approach delivers increased sales, improved positioning and customer recognition, differentiation and higher perceived value from investors. Internally, benefits include higher employee satisfaction and retention, increased productivity and a better understanding of firm mission, vision and values.
Brand Communication
Like a physical environment, two-dimensional expressions enable customers to experience and interact with your brand. Our team designs business and marketing collateral materials, packaging, sales tools, electronic communications and relationship management tools that are tailored to your business objectives and aligned with the overall brand look and feel. From designing an e-newsletter to launching an entirely new web-based business ground up, our communications tools support, and bring to life, your corporate mission and core values.
Brand Identification
A brand is a promise. We craft robust identities that communicate that promise and convey business attributes, expressing a client’s unique personality. Our team utilizes strong graphic design skills to create logos that engage your target audience, meet your business goals and make a lasting impression. Expertise in creating employee and donor recognition elements allow you to celebrate staff and reflect your organization’s history and purpose.
Our identity work also orients users. Our wayfinding and signage team works closely with clients to understand brand personality, architectural character, user groups, building programs and navigational challenges in order to craft the most functional, effective and aesthetically pleasing solutions for a variety of spaces from hospitals and airports to entire university campuses.
Brand Space
A well-designed, branded environment not only expresses your company’s DNA and leaves a lasting impression, it offers benefits for customers, employees and for the brand itself. Using our expertise, clients report increased employee recruitment, retention and productivity, and improved morale, not to mention a higher perceived value with investors and increased sales growth. Our 3-D design capabilities include interior architecture and design, finishes and furnishings selection and environmental graphics that maximize a space’s potential. We collaborate with all Perkins+Will discipline leaders to deliver brand space solutions to a wide array of clients, from Showrooms and Corporate Headquarters to universities, hospitals, airports and more.
Brand Strategy
Through a combination of research, visioning sessions and stakeholder interviews, we reshape, refine and reinvigorate our clients’ brands, making brand interaction more valuable—and ultimately, more enjoyable—for the intended audience. Whether introducing a new brand to the marketplace or reinvigorating an existing one, our expertise in research and analysis, strategic planning and market positioning is used to craft a strategy that will allow you to achieve your long-term business goals and enhance the brand experience.
I think that it is wonderful that they provide information such as the above on their website. It seems to me that it would help inform and educate potential clients on the importance of branding, and may even possibly gain Perkins + Will more jobs!

Hey, Jessie,
thank you for your symmetrization for the branding environment presentation from our guests on last Wednesday. It is always amazing that seeing how professionals do for their design projects and to borrow their ideas from their presentations. The thinking process from guest’s presentation is really creative and organized. from his presentation, I realized that thinking process, concept, presentation skill and passions are all important to interior designers. I am also impressed with his power point format which is nice, clean with comfortable colors. I think I may need to think about a good presenting format for my portfolio too.
